We love a good pizza night at our house and while it often involves ordering in (Hi Pizza Luce, it’s me again), making pizza at home can be quick and easy – if you use this shortcut on the crust: naan. Naan is a type of flatbread typical in Indian and Middle Easter cooking. It contains yogurt which adds a tanginess that I love and the texture is soft, pillowy and puffy. It’s the perfect base for a homemade pizza, far superior to tortillas, pita or English muffins, in my opinion.

Naan pizzas are a breeze to make on a weeknight and are even a great after school or sports snack that kids can easily make themselves. After I shared my method on TV, I heard from a Minnesota Live viewer who told me she makes these all the time as they’re the perfect portion controlled pizza night for single people.

This is less of a recipe and more of a method.

Naan Pizza

Gather this:

  • Naan bread
  • freshly shredded mozzarella
  • jarred pizza sauce of choice (I use Rao’s or feel free to make your own!)
  • other toppings as desired: pepperoni, cooked Italian sausage, thinly sliced mushrooms, peppers, olives, artichoke hearts, etc.

Do this:

Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F. Place 1-3 pieces of naan on a sheet pan and place in the oven for 3-4 minutes. Carefully remove the sheet pan and add your choice of sauce and toppings to the naan. Place the sheet pan back into the oven for an additional 4-5 minutes, until cheese is melted and the crust starts to become golden. Remove from the oven and let stand 1-2 minutes before cutting each naan into 4 pieces and serving. Fee free to add fresh herbs, hot honey, or a shower of parmesan after baking.
